Excelling Together!

Fellow Toastmasters of D96!

It’s amazing what has happened in the 2.5 years since I started as an officer for D96:

  • ended and started 3 jobs…and looking at ending/starting another this summer
  • lost my Grams to cancer
  • moved away from a relationship…
  • …so now I’m single
  • have never lived alone before…and now I am
  • finished my BSc
  • started my MA
  • had a rollover car accident…no injuries and only lost my car
  • found out I’m going to be a Grandma in December 2021

Have I always been excellent in dealing with the above situations? No. There’s a quote that I absolutely love! Apologies to Rumi for changing it up a bit however I find this particular one to allow for deep meaning.

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”  Rumi

With my thoughts on excellence this upcoming year, I was curious how adding this to Rumi’s quote could bring new meaning:

“Your task is not to seek for (excellence), but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

I believe we are excellent at our core. Naturally. Wholly. When we name what’s holding us apart from excellence and remove it, excellence will show up automatically!

I’m curious about what holds me back. Distractions? Not always eating the best food? Thinking I have to sit in front of my computer and churn out the work to be loved by my Team? Not taking breaks because I’ll seem more committed?

This year, I’d love for you to be curious about what your barriers are. How are they keeping you from excellence in your own life? I’m holding space for you and encouraging you to hold space for yourself and your fellow Toastmasters as compassionate witnesses to any movement toward removing these barriers.

EXCELLING TOGETHER!
