ADVANCED LEADERS LAB ("ALL")

: Saturday, September 19, 2020 (3rd Saturday)

Time:  Gather 10:00 am. Meeting 10:15 am - 12:15 pm

Register:  Please register in advance on the EventBrite page to receive the meeting information and Zoom link:
EventBrite Link: https://allworkshophpl.eventbrite.ca

Program Agenda includes speeches scheduled by Jim Mann and Gordon Walter plus a Feature Workshop hosted by Maureen McBeath DTM, who will moderate a panel discussion on how to complete a successful High-Performance Leadership ( HPL) project via Zoom conferencing.

The HPL, or High Performance Leadership project, has been a high bar to reach for in Toastmasters on the path to completing a DTM award for many years and has been both an exciting challenge to reach for and an intimidating standard to uphold. Now our socially distanced environment adds another level of hesitation to taking that next step in our leadership journey.

Maureen McBeath, DTM will facilitate a panel discussion: How to Complete HPL Online on Zoom. Everyone can gain some insight, whether you have completed an HPL previously using in-person meetings or are looking at a required project in your Pathways education path with trepidation and are looking for guidance while formulating your plan to get started. This workshop is not to be missed.

If you are completing your traditional education program, or working on your Pathways Level 3 or 4, and thinking about your HPL project, this workshop is for you.

Please make sure that you do go to the Eventbrite page for this month's meeting to confirm that you will be attending the meeting and to get the Zoom link to access the meeting space.  Eventbrite Link: https://allworkshophpl.eventbrite.ca

We look forward to seeing you all there.

WEAR A HAT, BRING A PROP, or USE A FUN ZOOM BACKGROUND: On February 19th - Wear Your Intentions:  Don’t come empty handed (or empty headed.)  What was the best themed meeting you’ve attended?  Dig out the hat, the make-up, the fake moustache, the parrot you wore on your shoulder, the snake you draped round your neck or the clove of garlic you held to protect yourself from the vampires in adjacent Zoom boxes.  We’re going to imagine themes that put the Pizzazz into Presentations and the Marvelous into Meetings.  If you haven’t attended a themed meeting come and learn how to create this kind of fun.

WORKSHOP“Pathways, Your Way” by Sandra Savage, of Boise Idaho
Pathways is a way to achieve big goals outside of Toastmasters

In this collaborative, interactive workshop, you will learn how picking a path by putting your goals first will provide an exciting action plan to use towards your individual and club success. Compelling real-life examples and step-by-step activities will model how to take your idea or goal from beginning to end.

USE Pathways for YOUR goals. By employing your projects towards a particular outcome (like organizing a charity marathon, putting together a proposal for a new program at work, etc.), members find PURPOSE in the projects and activities.

Reactions from those who have heard this presentation are so excited about finally doing something that they’ve had in the back of their minds for years – and are now going to use their Path to GET IT DONE!

Have paper and pen (and sticky notes, too) handy for this interactive, fun, yet practical, workshop on how you can USE Pathways, YOUR way.

Sandra Savage, Area Director in Boise, Idaho, has been a Toastmasters member since 1988.  She is currently a member of a number of specialty Toastmasters clubs (evaluation, marketing, and international).  When Toastmasters premiered the new educational program, “Pathways,” in 2017, she was one of the world’s first Pathways Ambassadors and Guides.

Sandra has traveled the world as a speaker in high-technology, culinary arts, and is an international keynote and motivational speaker. In addition, she is a published author on typography and two cookbooks.

While some of us might be familiar with the critical importance of play in early childhood development, very few of us think of play as foundational to what it means to be human. That’s right—what the science continues to show is that play is a fundamental component of human intelligence, decision-making, creativity, physical health, and all forms of learning. The April meeting is all about play, share how you play and the benefits from your play.

I traded in a thought, for a breath. And then…Breath, By Breath, I came home - To my own body, And there you were - Waiting for me. Miraculously. Beautiful Soul, Queen of my heart/ I am home. Breath by breath . Moment by Moment. I am here – to love."

Meeting THEME:  “Travel Destinations: The Good and the Disturbing” - What seemed incongruous with the beauty, life, excitement, etc. that drew to this vacation destination?

We are drawn to various places as a travel destination for a variety of reasons, from the weather, to the natural environment of beautiful beaches or snow-capped mountains.  Or, perhaps you were drawn to the people, the music and the food.  But where ever we go, is never just the thing that drew us there.  Poverty and financial inequalities, environmental issues, race and culture clashes happen world-wide and these can intrude on the vision of your planned vacation.

Share a 2-3 sentence short story on something you saw or witnessed on a vacation that you found disturbing and why this disturbed you.

Who are We?  We love to speak our minds, where every meeting is fast-paced, often irreverent, and always a humorous good time.  Jump into the fray and share whatever issue is on your mind.  (We have a role for that, called the "Rant".)  We welcome guests.  Feel free to join us for one of the most dynamic, engaging and rip-roaring fun online meetings you'll ever attend.  When meeting online, we host the meetings on Zoom.

Meeting Theme:  "BOOKS, BOOKS & MORE BOOKS!!"
Be prepared to add to your "Must Read" list as we discuss all things books!
Please Fill in the Blanks:  "The book, ________, by ________ influenced me …"

Speakers & Evaluators, including an education speech, "How to Rant Like a Pro" by Ken Batty, DTM

CoChairsNicole Holas, DTM and Georgina Harrison, DTM

Special note about Advanced clubs:  Advanced clubs are primarily made up of experienced Toastmasters who want to grow more rapidly than those in a typical club. They are Toastmasters who want to set a higher bar... and believe us, at SYM, the members are always encouraging one another to raise the bar further and further!
