toastmasters

Start Date

Our goal is to use speeches and feedback amongst our members to help each other grow and develop as public speakers. The group is open to anyone who is interested.

We meet once a week for an hour. Meetings involve a few members giving prepared speeches, impromptu speeches and feedback/suggestions. In general, we're people that realize that presentation and speaking skills are great tools for success and are working together to improve our abilities in these areas.

Guests are welcomed to attend a few meetings at no charge. Our next meeting will be Thursday, February 1st, 12PM in Bentall Four in the Absolute Software office (1055 Dunsmuir street, suite 14). In this session, we will be conducting an InfoSession/Q&A on Pathways-the new Toastmasters leadership track. If you'd like to attend and see what we are about, or have any questions please feel free to contact for details.

BC Toastmaster Celebrates 50 Years

“I stood back, guided and filled in the gaps.”

Distinguished Toastmaster Frank Coldicott recently returned from a visit with his daughter in Australia. While he was there, father and daughter, both wood crafters, designed and constructed homemade Adroinnock chairs.  While Frank’s daughter is still exploring her abilities, Frank said he was most content to stand back, guide and fill the gaps in her training.

Much like he has done for our Morningstars Toastmasters club on the Sunshine Coast in Gibsons, British Columbia and many clubs across British Columbia, Canada.

Visit Declarations for SUCCESS Toastmasters and see how our community club can help you enhance your self-confidence and build the speaking and leadership skills needed to achieve your goals.

At our meeting, you will see how our warm, supportive atmosphere and self-directed programs enable our members to achieve their communications and leadership goals.  You will also see how our collaborative approach and progressive programs enable our members to reach a level of excellence in speaking skills that is far beyond what is typically achieved in multi-thousand dollar seminars and courses (by comparison, Declarations Toastmasters dues are less than the cost of buying a latte before every meeting).

Our club's commitment to growing our members' communication and leadership skills has been integral to our success. By pairing new members with experienced public speaking mentors, new starts at the Declarations Toastmasters Club have the opportunity to jump start their progress.

Our community of members runs the gamut from college-age to active seniors and comes from many diverse walks of life and ethnicities.  Our members and guests come from across the Metro Vancouver area and work in a wide range of occupations, including education, law, medicine, sales, information technology, homemaking, financial services, insurance, real estate, and many others.

We welcome new members at all levels of communications and leadership experience, as a large part of our success comes from our diversity!

We are happy to announce that based on the survey results, our August 10 meeting will be held outdoors!

Theme: “Games People Play”
We will talk about different types of games such as outdoor games, party games and also games that people might play in their relationships.

Where?
At QE Park, the same location as the social outing held on July 4, the open space by the duck pond: https://goo.gl/maps/ZGDz5h4nqN3ugmXJ8

Parking is available either along Midlothian Ave or the parking lot near Seasons in the Park. It is also not too difficult to get to if you are taking transit.

Please allow some time to locate the meeting place if you are unfamiliar with QE Park.

We will aim to start on time at 7:05 pm, but will allow some leeway in case people get lost!

NOTE: we will revert back to an online meeting if the weather is unfavourable; we will post a notice in the WhatsApp group by 5:00 pm

How?
We will ensure that physical distancing is in place, and remind people that they should stay home if they are sick.

Please bring your own:
Chair or mat
😷Mask if you so desire
🌯Refreshments if you wish
📕Paper/pen or tablet/computer if you are an evaluator
⏱️Person taking the timer role should come prepared with a timing device and indicators (e.g. green yellow, red paper or equivalent)
⚽Your favorite game to play

Why?
A much-needed break from our online meeting format.

The window of opportunity to gather in person is limited, as restrictions will likely apply again in the fall as we approach the flu season. So please take this opportunity to enjoy seeing your fellow Toastmasters in person and enjoy the beautiful weather!

We look forward to seeing each of you!!

With around 60 members striving to improve their speaking skills, the Vancouver Toastmasters Club (#59) is a group of people supporting each other as we navigate our way through the speech projects of our Toastmasters manuals.  Gradually, each of us gets better week by week as we take small steps towards speaking confidently in front of a group.

We welcome new members who share a desire to improve their public speaking skills, reach personal goals, and help others gain confidence.  Guests are welcome to attend our meetings any time to learn more about the Toastmaster experience.

Vancouver Toastmasters Club (#59) meetings are held each Monday (except holidays) from 7 pm to 9 pm at:

Kitsilano Yacht Club
2401 Point Grey Rd., at Balsam
(West of Kits Pool)
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

The yacht club is located on the walking path below Point Grey Road.  The path can be accessed by taking the stairs directly below the point where Balsam Street meets Point Grey Road.  At the bottom of the stairs, walk west on the path 50 feet or so.  The yacht club is on the right past the chain link fence. Entrance to the club is on the east side of the building, through the gate in the chain link fence. The meeting starts at 7:00 pm.  If you arrive from 7:00 pm - 7:10 pm, please stand by the chain link fence.  A member will open the chain link fence door for you during this time and direct you to the meeting space.

During winter months, we advise you to bring a flashlight as the approach to the yacht club can be dark.  Request someone to meet you at the stairs if you are at all concerned.  Once inside, you will find the interior full of warm, welcoming Toastmasters and a beautiful view of the cityscape! If you have any questions about our club, please email us at vpm@tmclub59.com

Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you soon!!
