Toastmasters - On Steroids!
How often do you do a speech at your club?
That was a question asked at a workshop by Sherrie Xu, the 2018 runner up at the World Champion of Public Speaking. So what is your answer? Once every 3 months? every 6 months? every 4 weeks? Sherrie suggested you should write one every day! Yes, that's a bit of a challenge for most of us, but like any other exercise program, how about starting easy and work your way up? So let's start with one every week!
That's right, one prepared speech every week. That's what participants in a Speechcraft program is expected to do - one every week. You can run this as a 4, 6 or 8 week program. My home club, Community Impact Speakers is planning to do a 6 week session. By the end of that 6 week, the participants would have effectively completed level 1 of a path (any path!). They would also learn and practiced most of the fundamentals of a typical Toastmasters meeting and program.
Speechcraft is Toastmasters - on steroids!
- Do you know someone who could benefit from this?
- Would you like to get involved and help us out, as a guest evaluator or an education session presenter?
- Or may be your club would like to do a Speechcraft but not sure how to run? Contact us and be our guest and we'll learn together! Because to be honest, in my nearly 30 year career as a Toastmasters, I have never ever run a Speechcraft session before! So it can be a learning experience for all!
We will be starting our speechcraft session Tuesday, Sep 20, 7:00 - 8:30pm
at the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Center
at 6688 Southoaks Cres in Burnaby, near Kingsway and Griffith in the Highgate/Middlegate area.
Mind you, space is limited!
